Need a tow in Rosamond?
Rosamond is an unincorporated community in Kern County, just north of the Los Angeles County line and about 14–16 miles north of Lancaster on CA-14. The main freeway exit is 55, Rosamond Boulevard. When you call, say you are in Rosamond, give the street or your freeway direction and nearest exit, and say where the vehicle should go. The Kern County Sheriff and CHP's Mojave office, not LA County agencies, handle crashes and police tows here.
Where Rosamond is
Rosamond Boulevard is the first CA-14 exit after the freeway crosses from Los Angeles County into Kern County. The county line falls between exit 52 (Avenue A, the last LA County exit) and exit 55 (Rosamond Boulevard). The Kern County Sheriff’s Office describes Rosamond as the southeastern-most end of Kern County, bordering Lancaster and Palmdale.
Rosamond has no city government; the Census Bureau treats it as a Census-designated place of about 52 square miles of land, with 20,961 people counted in 2020. Its ZIP code is 93560. It lies roughly 14–16 miles north of Lancaster City Hall, about 26 minutes with no traffic. Mojave is about 13 miles farther north on the 14.
That county line changes almost everything except the drive. In Rosamond, the Kern County Sheriff, the CHP Mojave Area and the National Weather Service office in Hanford are the ones that matter, not their Los Angeles County counterparts.
Main roads in and around Rosamond
- CA-14. North of Avenue D, Caltrans no longer calls it the Antelope Valley Freeway; its designated name here is the Aerospace Highway. The town’s exit is 55, Rosamond Boulevard, named the LCpl Joseph C. Lopez Memorial Interchange. Exit 52, Avenue A, is the last one on the LA County side.
- Rosamond Boulevard is the main east–west road. East, it leads through town to the Edwards Air Force Base West Gate, about 15 miles from the freeway according to the base’s directions. West, it heads toward Willow Springs International Raceway at 3500 75th Street West.
- Sierra Highway runs north–south alongside the freeway.
- Farther north on CA-14, exits come at Dawn Road (58), Backus Road (61) and Silver Queen Road (64). After that, the Caltrans exit list shows nothing until SR-58 at exit 71 near Mojave. Note your last exit before you call.
Common reasons drivers need a tow in Rosamond
- Base commutes. The Sheriff’s Office notes that the Edwards West Gate is used by thousands of people daily, and it sits in the Rosamond response area. If a car quits on Rosamond Boulevard at shift change, or on the 14 heading home, have the cross street or exit ready.
- Wind. Rosamond’s forecasts come from NWS Hanford, zone CAZ339 (“Mojave Desert”), not from the Los Angeles office that covers Lancaster. Hanford issued between 15 and 26 Wind Advisories a year for that zone from 2022 through 2025, and 14 in 2026 through mid-October, plus a Blowing Dust Warning in 2023. CHP’s Mojave office describes its area as known for high winds. Wind warnings in the region single out high-profile vehicles: RVs, vans and anything towing a trailer.
- Track days at Willow Springs. A race car that can’t be driven home, or a tow vehicle that breaks down with a trailer behind it, usually needs a flatbed and sometimes a longer trip.
- Tows back to the LA County side. If your mechanic or dealer is in Lancaster or Palmdale, the tow runs south on the 14 across the county line.

Common questions
Who do I call after a crash on the 14 near Rosamond?
Call 911 for injuries or a blocked lane. Otherwise it is the CHP Mojave Area, (661) 823-5500, not CHP Antelope Valley. The Antelope Valley office's freeway patrol stops at the Kern County line.
Is Rosamond covered by the LA County Sheriff?
No. Rosamond is in Kern County. The Kern County Sheriff's Office runs a Rosamond Substation at 2978 Diamond Street; its non-emergency and report line is (661) 861-3110.
How far is a tow from Rosamond to Lancaster?
About 14–16 miles down CA-14 from the Rosamond Boulevard exit to central Lancaster, depending on the exact pickup and drop-off. The provider quotes the full trip before dispatch.
My car was towed in Rosamond. Where do I get it back?
Call the agency that ordered the tow, the Kern County Sheriff or CHP Mojave Area, and ask which yard has it and what to bring. Lancaster and Palmdale release rules and fees do not apply in Kern County.
Can I get a flatbed for a race car at Willow Springs?
You can request one. Say it is a race car or a low vehicle, whether it rolls and steers, and whether it is going home or to a shop, so a flatbed with the right gear is sent.
