Need a tow in Acton?

For a tow in Acton, tell the dispatcher the nearest CA-14 exit number and your direction, for example southbound past exit 24 (Crown Valley Road), or a cross street on Sierra Highway or Soledad Canyon Road. Say exit 27 or exit 11 rather than just Soledad Canyon Road, because the 14 has two exits by that name. A provider serving Acton and Palmdale confirms the price and an arrival estimate before dispatch.

Where Acton is

Acton is an unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, in the hills south of Palmdale between the Antelope Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley. The Census Bureau counts it as a census-designated place of about 39 square miles with 7,431 residents in 2020. Mail goes to Acton, CA 93510.

From Lancaster, it is a straight run south on CA-14, the Antelope Valley Freeway: through Palmdale, over Soledad Pass and down to exit 24, Crown Valley Road / Acton. Map routing puts it about 22 to 24 miles from Lancaster City Hall.

The drive climbs. USGS elevation data put Soledad Pass at roughly 3,200 feet (published figures vary a little) and spots in central Acton at about 2,900 to 3,100 feet, compared with about 2,343 feet at Lancaster City Hall.

The county’s Acton Community Standards District, adopted in 1995, covers about 71,000 acres and reaches south into the Angeles National Forest. According to the county code, it is meant to protect the area’s rural and equestrian character.

Main roads in and around Acton

Caltrans’ exit list for SR-14 (a 2018 sheet) gives these exits through the Acton area, north to south:

Exit Signed as Notes
30 Angeles Forest Highway Northbound signs add Pearblossom Hwy
27 Soledad Canyon Road The north one of two
26 Santiago Road
24 Crown Valley Road / Acton Main Acton exit
22 Red Rover Mine Road Northbound signs add Sierra Hwy
19 Escondido Canyon Road

Exit numbers follow mileposts, so the second Soledad Canyon Road exit, number 11, is about 16 miles south of exit 27, toward Agua Dulce and Santa Clarita. Always give the number.

Off the freeway:

  • Sierra Highway runs through Acton alongside CA-14.
  • Soledad Canyon Road winds through the canyon on the south side of the freeway.
  • Crown Valley Road meets CA-14 at exit 24; the Acton Agua Dulce Library is at 33792 Crown Valley Road.
  • Angeles Forest Highway (County Road N3) heads south from exit 30 into the San Gabriel Mountains.

Common reasons drivers need a tow in Acton

Trouble on the grade. Northbound, CA-14 climbs through the Acton hills to Soledad Pass. A long climb on a hot afternoon is hard on a weak cooling system. If the temperature gauge rises, see what to do when your car overheats, and get to the right shoulder or the next exit.

Winter storms in the Highway 14 corridor. The National Weather Service forecasts Acton in its “Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor” zone, not the Antelope Valley floor zone. Its February 16, 2026 Winter Storm Warning for that zone called for 1 to 4 inches of snow between 3,500 and 4,500 feet, gusts to 50 mph, and told drivers to “plan on slippery road conditions.” Central Acton sits below that band, so a warning does not always mean snow in town. News reports describe ice and snow closing parts of the 14 on both sides of Acton: around Palmdale and Lancaster in December 2019, and in Santa Clarita in February 2023.

Angeles Forest Highway closures. Ahead of that same storm, LA County Public Works closed Angeles Forest Highway from Aliso Canyon Road to Highway 2 over flash-flood and debris-flow risk, until crews could clear it. If you are stuck past a closure, a tow truck may not be able to get through until the county reopens it.

Rural driveways and dirt roads. If a car slides off a soft shoulder or bogs down on a dirt ranch road, the first job is a winch-out back to solid ground. If a trailer is hitched, say so when you call.

How requesting a tow works

  1. Tell us where you are

Call, or send a request with your location, vehicle and what happened. A cross street, freeway exit or mile marker is enough.

  2. A provider confirms

Your request goes to a local towing or roadside provider covering Acton. They tell you whether they can reach you, the total price and an arrival estimate.

  3. You decide

Nothing is sent until you agree. Wait somewhere safe, away from traffic, and pay the provider directly when the job is done.

Common questions

Which Soledad Canyon Road exit is the one in Acton?

CA-14 has two exits signed Soledad Canyon Road. Exit 27 sits between Palmdale and Acton's main exit (24); exit 11 is about 16 miles farther south, toward Santa Clarita. Give the exit number so the truck goes to the right one.

Is Acton covered by the Palmdale or the Santa Clarita sheriff's station?

The LA County Sheriff's Palmdale Station lists Acton among the communities it serves. Traffic on CA-14 from Acton north to the Kern County line is patrolled by the CHP Antelope Valley Area.

Does Acton get snow?

Central Acton sits at roughly 2,900 to 3,100 feet, and the National Weather Service puts it in its Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor zone, which does get winter storm warnings. A February 2026 warning for that zone forecast snow from 3,500 feet up and slippery roads. Check the forecast before driving the 14 in a winter storm.

Can I get my car towed from Acton to a shop in Santa Clarita?

Yes, if the provider agrees to the trip. Tell the dispatcher the destination when you call, because a trip out of the Antelope Valley is priced by distance and may be handled as a long-distance tow.

Will the Freeway Service Patrol help me on the 14 near Acton?
